Hello! My name is Tim Anderson. I am English as a Second Language teacher at the English Language Institute (ELI) of Gallaudet University. I have known Tissa Peiris for 10 years, first as a student and later as colleague and teacher at ELI. We have co-taught some classes at ELI together.
Tissa is an excellent teacher; his ASL classes are well taught and organized. He tends to be continually busy in the classroom like a shark so as to engage his students. He is a hard worker, working countless hours. His students have commented to me that they admired him and his teaching style because he is always concerned on getting his ideas across to improve the student's learning. With hearing students learning ASL, Tissa shows the same concerns. Tissa is also very cooperative with the ELI staff. He considers ELI his family and acts accordingly. Tissa is well versed in deaf culture. I am impressed that he knows several sign languages. With is knowledge of several sign languages, he is able to transition with people of different cultures and sign language without problems. Tissa's focus is on advancing the studying ASL Linguistics. He is always motivated, meeting and asking me questions. And to top it off, he is very kind, always thinking about others and sympathizing with them. |
